The,Surya Mandir located in the Sidgora area of Jamshedpur, is one of the city’s most prominent spiritual and cultural landmarks. Built by the Jharkhand Tourism Development Corporation, the temple is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya Dev, and is celebrated for its striking architecture and serene environment.

Architectural Features

The temple is designed in the form of a massive chariot, a traditional representation of the Sun God’s celestial vehicle.

  • Chariot Design: The structure is adorned with 18 elegantly designed wheels and is pulled by seven naturalistic stone horses, symbolizing the days of the week.

  • Deities: While the primary deity is Surya Dev, the complex also houses beautifully crafted shrines for Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha.

  • The Sun Pond: A dedicated pond, often referred to as the Surya Kund, is situated within the premises. It serves as a focal point for rituals, particularly during the Chhath Puja festival.
