Celebrated during the winter (typically in January), Tusu Parab is a folk festival centered around the harvest. It is particularly popular among the rural and tribal populations around Jamshedpur. The festival involves the creation of “Tusu idols” or decorative bamboo frames (Chaudal), which are taken in colorful processions to nearby rivers for immersion accompanied by traditional folk songs.

Jamshedpur is famous for its elaborate Durga Puja celebrations, which rival those in neighboring West Bengal. The city is dotted with creatively designed Pandals (temporary structures), each competing for the most artistic theme. The atmosphere is festive with street food stalls, cultural performances, and large crowds enjoying the “Pandal hopping” tradition.

As a major tribal festival of Jharkhand, Sarhul marks the beginning of the New Year for the indigenous communities. It is a celebration of nature, specifically the flowering of the Sal tree. You can witness vibrant processions through the streets featuring traditional drumming, dancing, and participants dressed in ethnic attire.

One of the most prominent festivals in the region, Chhath Puja is celebrated with immense devotion. Thousands of residents gather at the banks of the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers to offer prayers to the Sun God. The city takes on a spiritual aura with traditional folk songs, illuminated riverbanks, and the preparation of “Thekua” (a traditional prasad).

This is the most unique and significant event in Jamshedpur, celebrating the birth anniversary of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. The entire city, especially Jubilee Park, is illuminated with spectacular light displays and floral decorations. The festivities include a grand parade, sports competitions, and exhibitions showcasing the city’s industrial and social progress.
